Parliament Supports Presidential Election Plan
The Georgian Parliament has approved a draft resolution to hold presidential elections on December 14, 2024. The inauguration will take place on December 29.
80 out of 90 MPs supported the proposal, with no one voting against it. Speaker Shalva Papuashvili presented the plan in a speech.
According to the proposal, the President is elected for a five-year term. The Parliament will determine the date of the next presidential election and the inauguration ceremony. In this case, the election will be held on December 14, 2024, and the inauguration on December 29.
A special group called the electoral college will choose the president. It consists of 300 members, including MPs, members of the Supreme Councils of Adjara and Abkhazia, and city council representatives. The college will meet on December 14 in the Parliament building to elect the President.
To be elected in the first round, a candidate must receive support from at least two-thirds of the votes. If this does not happen, a second round will be held.
The Central Election Commission will conduct the elections.
