Forty-four employees of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have made a statement on social media, criticizing the government‘s decision to delay the country’s European Union accession negotiations until 2028.
The diplomats say that this move does not align with Georgia’s strategic interests. They argue that the current wave of EU expansion presents an “unprecedented historical opportunity” for the country to join the European family.
**Concerns Over Isolation**
According to the statement, delaying the accession process will lead to negative consequences, including the isolation of the country. Without the support of Western partners, Georgia may face intensified threats in a changing international environment.
**Constitutional Concerns**
The diplomats also claim that removing EU accession negotiations from the agenda contradicts Article 78 of the Georgian Constitution. This article requires the government to prioritize the national interests of Georgia and remain loyal to the Constitution.

Despite their concerns, the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remain committed to Georgia’s course of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
