**Russian Physiologist’s Statue Removed from Kyiv**
A statue of Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov has been removed from a district in Kyiv, Ukraine. The city administration made the decision on January 27.
Pavlov was a famous scientist who lived between 1849 and 1936. He is known for his work on neurology and physiology. However, some people have criticized him for conducting cruel experiments on animals.
**Why Was the Statue Removed?**
The statue was removed because it symbolized Russia‘s past control over Ukraine. For centuries, Russia controlled Ukraine and imposed its language, culture, and customs on the country. After Ukraine gained independence in 1991, many statues of Russian figures were erected. But since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the city has been trying to remove these symbols.
**Other Statues Removed**
The city administration says that they have removed 59 objects as part of this effort. The statue is now being stored at a specialized site and will be moved to a museum later on.
