**UK Braces for Cyberattacks from Russia**
Russia is expected to launch a wave of cyberattacks against the UK’s infrastructure and businesses, according to experts. This comes after Ukraine used Storm Shadow missiles to strike deep into Russian territory.
Ukraine had been asking its Western allies to allow it to use long-range weapons like ATACMS and Storm Shadow to attack Russian military bases and airfields. However, these requests were initially denied to avoid further escalation. But in November, US President Joe Biden gave the green light for Ukraine to use these missiles.
**Russia Warns of Retaliation**
Recently, reports have emerged that Ukraine used Storm Shadow missiles to hit a headquarters with Russian and North Korean generals. Russia has warned that it may retaliate by targeting the UK’s energy infrastructure, potentially leaving millions without electricity.
**UK Prepares for Cyber Threats**
Minister Pat McFadden is expected to make a statement at a NATO conference on 25 November regarding the potential cyberattacks from Russia. He will highlight the dangers posed by Russian aggression in the cyber realm and urge businesses and critical national infrastructure to take proper protection measures.
**Unofficial Hacker-Activists Pose Threats**
McFadden’s warning also targets “unofficial hacker-activists” who carry out increasingly frequent and sophisticated attacks worldwide. These groups are not directly controlled by the Kremlin but are allowed to operate with impunity so long as they don’t work against Putin‘s interests.
