BAE Systems to Build New Artillery Factory in Sheffield
A new factory will be built in Sheffield to make artillery pieces for Ukraine. This is a big deal because Ukraine’s army needs these guns to fight against Russia.
The factory will start making M777 howitzers, which are special types of guns that can shoot far away. These guns are good because they are light and easy to move around. They have been used by the US, Canada, and Australia to help Ukraine.
The new factory is a big change from earlier plans to stop making these guns in the UK. Now, BAE Systems will make parts for older M777s that need fixing. This will create 50 new jobs in Sheffield and support Ukraine’s defense efforts.
John Borton, who runs BAE Systems’ weapons business, said this new factory is important for the UK’s defense industry. It will help Britain make its own artillery pieces and even sell them to other countries.
This news comes at a time when the world is getting more tense, and many countries are spending more money on their militaries. This means there will be more demand for equipment like the M777 howitzer.
