**Parliament Investigates Former Government**
A temporary investigative commission in the Georgian Parliament is looking into the activities of the “National Movement” government. The commission has called three former high-ranking officials to testify tomorrow.
These officials are Zaza Gogava, Mamuka Qurashvili, and Shalva Janashvili. They will be questioned about their role during the August 2008 war between Georgia and Russia. This session is scheduled for March 27 at 10:00 AM.
According to commission chairperson Tea Tsulukiani, several former officials have confirmed that Georgia came close to war with Russia in 2004 and 2006. If this had happened earlier, it could have avoided the August war.
Tsulukiani also said that the third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, will be summoned to the commission. She mentioned that leaders of the “Lelo – Strong Georgia” party, Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, were afraid to attend the commission’s session.
Tsulukiani suggested that they might have been afraid because their true faces would be revealed. Last week, a businessman accused them of property theft during Saakashvili’s rule.
Failure to comply with the commission’s requirements can lead to fines or even imprisonment.
