Parliament Increases Fines for Certain Offenses
The Georgian Parliament has approved a new law that increases fines for certain offenses. The law was passed unanimously with 82 votes in the final reading.
One of the changes is an increase in fines for damaging the appearance of cities and disrupting traffic. If someone damages a city’s appearance, they will be fined 1,000 GEL, up from 50 GEL. Disrupting traffic can also result in a fine of 1,000 GEL.
Fines for violating gathering norms are also increasing. If someone violates these norms, they will be fined 5,000 GEL, up from 500 GEL. Organizers of gatherings that violate the norms can face fines of up to 15,000 GEL.
In addition, wearing a Ministry of Internal Affairs uniform without permission is now punishable by a fine of 2,000 GEL.
The law also makes it easier for authorities to fine people who block roads with their vehicles. In such cases, drivers will be fined 1,000 GEL and lose the right to drive for one year.
Fines for damaging public property are also increasing in some areas. For example, in Tbilisi, someone who damages a building or other public property can face fines of up to 3,500 GEL.
Failure to correct certain violations within 10 days after being fined will result in additional fines.
The new law has been added to the “Code of Administrative Offenses“. It includes provisions for fining parents whose children disobey law enforcement officers. In such cases, the parent or legal representative can face fines ranging from 100 to 300 lamades.
