**UK Requires Russians to Register Activities**
The British government has made it mandatory for people working for the Russian state in the UK to openly declare their activities. This new rule starts on July 1, as announced by the government on April 1.
**Spy Concerns**
This move comes after a number of suspected spy networks run by Russia and Belarus were uncovered in Europe. The UK is concerned about espionage and has added Russia to the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme (FIRS). This scheme was introduced in 2023 to protect against harmful covert activities.
**Consequences**
If people working for Russia don’t comply with this new rule, they could face criminal prosecution. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said, “For too long, the Kremlin has been responsible for unacceptable threats to our national security.” She added that the FIRS will give the UK more power to take action against Russian threats.
**Other Developments**
In other news, Russia launched 15 strike drones against the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine. Eight people were left with shock, but no physical injuries were reported.
The US is planning to increase pressure on both Kyiv and Moscow as a full ceasefire by April or May seems unlikely. The Ukrainian government has been receiving support from European countries and the EU has launched a program worth 16.7 million euros to help Ukraine prepare for EU membership.
**Global Reaction**
The Georgian Parliament passed a new “foreign agents” law, while Latvia will provide 1,500 combat drones to Ukraine. The US is also considering easing sanctions to allow Russian officials to visit the country.
