**Ukrainian Ambassador Rejects Russian Ceasefire Proposals**
The Ukrainian ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova, has dismissed Russian ceasefire proposals as dishonest. She made her statement on a CBS news program.
Markarova said that Russia could end its invasion of Ukraine immediately if it wanted to. However, instead of stopping the war, Russia continues to launch thousands of strikes against Ukrainian cities.
**Ukraine Can Defend Itself**
The ambassador also stated that Ukrainians can still defend their own country despite being surrounded by Russian and North Korean troops on the front lines. Markarova said that Ukraine is not asking for other troops but rather military support from allies.
**Importance of Proper Equipment**
During the interview, Markarova emphasized the importance of sufficient and proper equipment to counter Russia’s attacks. She stated that lowering the mobilization age for Ukrainian soldiers is not as serious a concern as receiving equipment from allies.
Markarova said that Ukraine has many young people volunteering to fight and that new brigades are being trained with the help of allies’ military support. However, she claimed that the problem lies in having enough equipment to train them effectively.
**Russia’s Attack Capabilities Must Be Degraded**
The Ukrainian ambassador also stated that peace can be achieved by degrading Russia’s attack capabilities with long-range weapon systems. She said that Ukraine was never a problem and did not initiate the conflict.
Markarova rejected the idea of a Christmas ceasefire, saying that “every time Russia is talking about some ceasefire, they are lying.” She claimed that if Russia wants to stop the war seriously, it can do so at any moment.
