**Ukraine Investigates Faulty Mortar Shells**
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry is looking into the supply of faulty mortar shells to its forces. The ministry made this announcement on November 26, after several reports and videos were shared on social media showing the mortar shells not exploding or missing their targets.
**Faulty Shells Withdrawn**
The Defense Ministry has removed the batches of faulty ammunition from use. Instead, Ukrainian forces will receive imported shells. According to Dzerkalo Tyzhnia, a news outlet, this concerns 100,000 shells that would have lasted for six months on the front line. The delay in receiving new imports may cause problems.
**Quality Control Issues**
An investigation by Dzerkalo Tyzhnia found that the quality control process was inadequate. Warnings about the plant making the detonators for the shells were ignored, and military officials failed to report initial problems with the shells in September. The Defense Ministry stressed that the Strategic Industries Ministry was responsible for carrying out the order.
**Investigation Launched**
The State Bureau of Investigation has started a criminal investigation into this matter. “Appropriate personnel decisions” will be made regarding responsible officials, according to the ministry’s statement. New measures will also be implemented to improve quality control and inspection processes at all stages.
