The ministry accused Leto, a Ukrainian national, of insulting Ukrainian defenders when he expressed a desire to perform at a Russian concert and referred to the war as ‘problems’. Russia is attempting to “solve ‘the problem’ of Ukraine‘s existence”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine released a statement criticizing American actors and musicians Jared Leto and his comments about Ukraine and Russia made during a recent Serbia concert.
Leto had asked his audience at his last concert if they were Russians, as he felt a “lot of Russian energy” in the room. He also expressed his hope for future performances at St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Kyiv, once the war in Ukraine is over.
Leto said, “I’ll tell that one day when all these problems have been resolved, we’ll come visit you in your home country.”
