Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, says Donald Trump‘s victory will not significantly change Washington’s policy toward Moscow.
According to Reuters, Ambassador Gatilov said a dialogue between Russia and the US might be possible, but no major shift is expected. This comes despite Trump’s friendly views on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
**Trump’s Views on Ukraine**
In the past, Trump has called Putin a “genius” and someone who respects him. He also claimed that Putin told him about his ambitions to control Ukraine. However, Trump allegedly warned Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine after his electoral victory.
Ukraine is committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and does not possess nuclear weapons, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.
**US House of Representatives Remains Republican-Controlled**
The Republican Party has maintained control of the US House of Representatives, securing 218 out of 435 seats. This might affect Trump’s plans for his administration, including potential firings and nominations.
**New Nominations Announced**
Trump announced his intention to nominate Senator Marco Rubio as secretary of state and Representative Matt Gaetz from Florida as the next U.S. attorney general. These nominations will need further confirmation by the Republican-controlled Senate.
