UN Worried About New Laws in Georgia
The United Nations Human Rights Office has spoken out about laws passed by the Georgian Parliament this week. They are concerned that these laws will limit people’s freedom to express themselves, join groups they believe in, and have equal rights.
These new laws could also make it harder for people to participate in politics and hold elections. The UN is urging Georgia to follow its international human rights obligations.
The Human Rights Office said in a statement: “Georgia, we are concerned about the restrictive laws and regulations passed by parliament this week… We urge Georgia to uphold its IHRL (International Human Rights Law) obligations.”
