CHERNIHIV (Ukraine) – Officers, soldiers and volunteers at the repair and restoration facility of Ukraine’s 50th Regiment watched as a self loading container truck lowered a black shipping box with a repair workshop installed inside.
The Tvii Krok charity (Your Step), which designed the mobile repair complex known as Workshop Locker and handed it over to this regiment. The workshop is designed to be used in the field for quick repairs and can handle engines, gearboxes and welding tasks on trucks and armored vehicle.
After volunteers delivered the workshop to the 50th Regiment’s unit, Colonel Vitaliy Bahmat, commander, told The Kyiv Independent that the module would be used for the repair and restoration of military equipment.
The modules are compatible with almost all domestic and foreign equipment.
Tvii Krok was founded in December 2022 in Kharkiv by a business that specializes in tools and equipment used in car service. The company raises money to buy and deliver drones, electronic war systems, and mobile workshops made in Kharkiv, to the frontlines.
The charity also offers two other versions of the mobile repair workshop. These are the Big-Locker tire complex for trucks, cars, and armored vehicles and the Locker mobile workshop mounted on an all-wheel drive truck.
Dmytro Vlchynskyi (the charity’s deputy director) told the Kyiv independent on his way back to Kyiv that everything is made in Ukraine, and costs $10,000. He added that foreign equivalents with delivery would be almost eight times as expensive.
The engineers of the charity developed the workshop in less that a month. Four months later, the first workshop was given to the military.
The charity has already helped 50 units including the 47th, 3rd, 92nd and Kraken unit of military intelligence, as well as the 47th, 92nd and 3rd brigades.
Vilchynskyi noted that despite their usefulness, raising funds to build additional workshops can be difficult.
“Everyone knows what a drone is or an electronic warfare systems. Few people realize that logistics is the key to all of this. “Logistics is directly involved in the repair of equipment and timely, high quality maintenance.”
“A wrench can sometimes be as useful as a first-person drone.”
Brigadier general Mykhailo Sdorenko, Deputy Commander of the Northern Command, said that this particular complex delivered would remain in the north. Russia attacks Chernihiv and Kharkiv in the north and eastern part of the country daily with missiles and artillery. They also use drones and glide bombs.
“Even if the vehicle breaks down on the frontline, specialists will arrive in an hour and fix everything. This way, they can avoid the risk of being seen by large repair trucks,” Sydorenko told the Kyiv Independent.
He says that modern combat requires camouflage and maneuverability. These are not repairs. This complex replaces a large part of the old fleet, and is needed by repair units to maintain equipment not only in the front lines but also at the rear.
Pavlo, who refused to reveal his last name and is a member of the 50th Regiment, was the very first person to inspect the inside of the container.
He said that the mobile workshop will be particularly useful for repairing MaxxPro mine resistant ambush protected armored fighting vehicles designed in the United States, as these heavy vehicles are difficult to transport far from the frontlines.
The Kyiv Independent quoted Pavlo as saying, “The tractors will transport a MaxxPro safely to a place where we can restore it without any issues.”
