On November 5, thousands of people gathered in protest against what they called rigged elections. They marched from the Train Station Square up to Rustaveli Avenue which was closed to traffic as more people arrived. The rally began with the Georgian and EU Flags, and featured the national hymn.
The opposition leaders announced non-stop demonstrations to demand new election, and announced a plan of action in three parts: 1) Inform all Georgians about the fraud, deception, and machinations that Georgian Dream used to steal elections. 2) Make sure that international partners do not recognize the rigged election. 3) Continue democratic resistance, civic activism, street protests.
At today’s rally, Greta Tunberg, a prominent Swedish climate activist who arrived in Georgia the morning of 4 November was spotted. She expressed her support for the Georgians in their struggle for democracy. After the rally, protesters march towards the Baratashvili Bridge, blocking the right side of the river Mtkvari. This is one of the major traffic arteries in the city. The march continued in the streets of Tbilisi to Marjanishvili Metro Station.
Another rally is planned on November 5, 14:00, near the Sports Palace.
