Three Political Parties in Georgia Speak Out Against Election Irregularities.
In a joint statement, three Georgian political parties have called on the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and its parliamentary factions to reject the credentials of Georgia’s parliamentary delegation. The move comes after the opposition claims that the October 26, 2024, parliamentary elections were marred by serious violations.
According to the statement, the elections did not meet international standards or the will of the Georgian people. As a result, the “parliament” formed from these elections and its elected president lack legitimacy. The opposition demands that the ruling party’s delegation be rejected.
The three political parties – Coalition for Change, Unity – National Movement, and Strong Georgia – are urging PACE to take action against the current regime in Georgia. They claim that the leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream party, including Bidzina Ivanishvili, are under international sanctions due to their role in democratic backsliding and human rights abuses.
The opposition is also calling for the immediate release of all political prisoners and the holding of new elections that are free, fair, and transparent. They see PACE’s principled stance as crucial to safeguarding democratic values in Georgia.
