Russian Police Raid Office Without a Court Order
Russian riot police stormed the office of Georgia’s youth organization, “Unity National Movement“, without a court order. They took away flags of Georgia and the European Union, medical supplies, and phones from five young men who were in the office.
This is what happened, according to Chairman Tina Bokuchava. She says that the police also took away saline solution and other medical equipment used by the organization to help people during a recent protest.
Bokuchava calls the events “total repression” against Georgian society. She says that Russian-backed politicians have promised peace but are instead using force against citizens.
The office was raided without any warning, Bokuchava said. The police did not allow her or lawyers to enter the building while they were searching it. Five young men who were in the office at the time of the raid were arrested and taken away by the police.
Bokuchava suspects that the Russian riot police brought evidence into the office that will be used to accuse the organization of a coup d’état. She says that this is similar to tactics used by autocratic leaders like Vladimir Putin.
The chairman of “Unity National Movement” emphasized that the most important thing for her and her organization is the release of the five young men who were arrested during the raid, as well as hundreds of other young people who are still being detained by Russian-backed forces in Georgia.
