**Georgian Journalist on Hunger Strike, Protesters Demand Freedom**
A female journalist in Georgia has been refusing food for 16 days while in prison. Mzia Amaglobeli was spat at and humiliated by police officers. This is just one of many examples of the country’s worsening human rights situation.
**European Leaders Told to Act**
Tina Bokuchava, chairwoman of the Unity National Movement, spoke out against the Georgian government at a meeting of the European People’s Party. She urged leaders not to recognize the authority of the Georgian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
**President Held Captive**
The third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, has been held captive for four years on political charges. This is seen as a move by the government to undermine democracy and silence opposition.
**A Choice for Georgia**
According to Bokuchava, “Georgia is at a crossroads today.” The country can either become more authoritarian like Russia or continue towards a European future. She appealed to European leaders to make a choice in favor of democracy.
