Georgian Citizens Will Not Be Silenced, Says Tina Bokuchava
The leader of the Unity – National Movement, Tina Bokuchava, has spoken out against the “media law” announced by the Georgian Dream. She said that any legislative amendments will have no validity or legitimacy.
According to Bokuchava, the amendments were adopted by an illegitimate parliament and will be repealed under a future democratic government. She also criticized Bidzina Ivanishvili for attacking independent media, citing his attempt to take control of Rustavi 2 TV channel.
Bokuchava expressed support for Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi, who has been on a hunger strike for 27 days. She praised Amaglobeli’s courage in exposing Ivanishvili’s Russian face and dictatorship through her free speech.
Amaglobeli was arrested after slapping the Batumi Police Chief, Irakli Dgebuadze. She is charged with assaulting a police officer and faces up to 7 years in prison. Bokuchava joined the demand for Amaglobeli’s release, saying she will be freed soon and hailed as a hero for saving Georgia’s European future.
