Important Resolution to be Passed in European Parliament
Tomorrow, a crucial decision will be made in the European Parliament. The focus is on holding new elections in Georgia. This has been said before by Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). According to Tina Bokuchava, Chairman of the “Unity-National Movement”, this resolution is essential for restoring relations between the Georgian government and the EU.
Tina Bokuchava thinks that only through re-elections can Georgia escape international isolation. She recently met with MEPs and believes they understand that the October 26 elections did not truly reflect the will of the Georgian people. The European Parliament will also call on the Georgian authorities to release President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is currently considered a political prisoner.
The resolution passed tomorrow is seen as a turning point. After this, it may be impossible for the government and the EU to have good relations again. This means that new elections are needed to bring Georgia back into the international community.
