Tina Bokuchava, chairwoman of the “United National Movement,” wants March 31 to be a significant date for Georgia. This is because it’s the day of the independence referendum, but she also thinks it should mark the end of discussions on unity.
Bokuchava talked about the planned protest rally on PalitraNews’ program 360 Degrees. She said that if Georgia doesn’t unite by March 31, those who oppose unity should be named. Bokuchava believes that using this date to show unity is a great opportunity for the country.
She mentioned that her party has always supported a united front, even before elections. But, she also thinks that it’s not up to one person or party to force others into unification. If other political forces don‘t realize the importance of unity, then March 31 should be the last chance to discuss this.
Bokuchava also spoke about her disagreements with President Zurabishvili. She said that refusing to pardon former President Saakashvili was a mistake. Pardoning him would have helped consolidate society and move beyond party lines.
The chairwoman of “United National Movement” also talked about the sale of their central office on Kakheti Highway. Bokuchava explained that they sold it to relocate to the city center, where protests are happening daily. This was both a strategic and financial decision.
