Tina, the director of “Civil Idea”, the organization that Tina heads, described the meeting between Khidasheli and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during the Fifth Summit of European Political Union Working Visit to Hungary.
Khidasheli said in the “Free Studio”, a program of “PalitraNews”, that the 7th of November summit was supposed be a meeting to discuss the calendar for the beginning of negotiations with Georgia. But “instead, we received a meeting where the Prime Minister of Georgia refused to shake hands”.
“Georgian officials took advantage of the facts that Hungary was the EU president country. By the way, the alphabetical order of the presidency is known to us, but if someone doesn’t believe it, they acted as if Hungary had become the EU president country due to some achievements. He became president because he had to use the alphabet. They took advantage, came to Budapest and attended the summit, bringing even greater shame to their country. We did not see even a single handshake with the leader of democratic world. After the elections, presidents who attended such an event were congratulated and applauded. The November 7th summit was supposed be a meeting to discuss the calendar for the beginning of negotiations with Georgia. Instead, we got a meeting of November 7-8th, 2024. Not to shake hands with Prime Minister of Georgia who is present,” Khidasheli stated.
Khidasheli also spoke about the opening up of negotiations for Georgia’s accession into the European Union, and noted that the issue was not on the agenda.
According to her own assessment the Georgian government did the same thing as the former President Eduard Shevardnadze, and the Chairman of Autonomous Republic of Ajara Aslan Abashidze in 2003.
“Nobody talks about it. This question is not on our agenda. This topic will remain closed until the Georgian government admits that the law is false and attempts to correct it through legal mechanisms or withdraws the law in question. No one is against us. The issue of Georgia does not come up. The Georgian government did the same thing that Eduard Shevardnadze, Aslan Abashidze, and their regime did to us back in 2003. In 2003, instead of democratically holding elections, they did the opposite, which led to the “Rose Revolution”.
I am very afraid that in 20 years we will not find ourselves in exactly the same situation that the corrupt Shevardnadze-Abashidze administration brought us to in 2004. Georgia had every opportunity to join the enlargement of 2004 if it had a democratically elected government. We face the exact same danger today”, said Khidasheli.
Khidasheli spoke also about Georgia-USA relations and the USA presidential election in the context of international relations. This was after Donald Trump‘s win. Khidasheli is unsure what the joy is of “Georgian Dream”.
Khidasheli also noted that the current Georgian government will have serious problems if it continues to pursue its strategic partnership with China.
Khidasheli also listed the redlines that “Georgian Dream”, which will have problems with Trump’s administration.
It is not clear to me what [Georgian Dream] means to them or what they want. I understand they need to present this in front of their voters today, because they said during the previous campaign that we would remain in power after the Georgian elections and that Trump would win the American elections. Liberal democracy would be defeated. But I am curious about how Trump will arrive in America. Is this a change in the form of government? Is a dictatorship being established or what’s happening?
What does it matter that the “Republican Party”, in America, is a conservative, right-wing party? Has any Republican congressman or senator said anything positive about Georgia’s current government? – Of Course not.
What was going on in the USA-Georgia relations during the first term Trump administration? It was the very first and the last administration that the only high-ranking US official [Mike Pompeo] pointed the finger at the Prime Minster of Georgia [Davit Bahtadze] at a press conference. He warned the Prime Minister against giving Anaklia to Russia and the Chinese. Do not leave Georgia before this danger! This is the first time we have seen a similar case.
The second time, those who listened to Trump’s campaign were not as sharp as they were when it came to Iran. Trump has drawn a redline with anyone who wants a partnership with Iran. This “flirtation”, of the Georgian Government with the Iranian Government, is very dangerous. The Georgian government will be the first on the list to receive an official warning.
Third, China. China is the second red line for Trump and Republicans in general. The current Georgian government will have a serious problem if it crosses the red line of strategic partnership with China.
The first task I expect from the Congress and Senate meeting on November 12 in relation to Georgia is two acts that are awaiting a vote in these two chambers: the “Friendly Act”, and the “Supporting Georgia Act”. Who initiated these acts? – Republicans. Who was the congressman that signed the act and on whose initiative it was initiated? Khidasheli said, “Congressman Joe Wilson“.
