Parliament to Review “Foreign Agents Registration Act” Bill
The Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee will meet on March 3 to discuss a bill about registering foreign agents. This is the first time the committee will review the bill.
Some lawmakers say the bill is copied from the United States’ version, word for word. However, officials who checked the bill found mistakes and inaccuracies in the Georgian language translation.
The bill aims to control:
* Who represents foreign powers
* Registering entities that work for foreign powers
* Requiring these entities to publicly disclose their information
* Making them submit financial reports each year
* Removing an entity’s registration if needed
* Monitoring these entities to ensure they follow the law
* Punishing those who don’t register or break the law
Members of Parliament from two parties, “Georgian Dream” and “People’s Power“, are behind this bill.
