**Russia’s Military Struggles in Ukraine**
NATO’s top commander, General Christopher Cavoli, said Russia lacks the forces needed for a big victory in Ukraine. He spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21.
**No Quick Win for Russia**
General Cavoli is not worried that Ukraine will suddenly lose to Russia. He believes there won’t be a major breakthrough because Russia can’t generate enough offensive forces. Ukrainian defenses are also effective, making it hard for Russia to gain ground.
**Russia’s Slow Push**
Despite some gains in late 2024, Russia’s advance has been slow and incremental. This is exhausting their own forces, said General Cavoli. He mentioned that Russia even brought thousands of soldiers from North Korea to help with the fight.
**Manpower Shortages**
Ukrainian forces are overstretched and struggling with manpower shortages. This makes it hard for them to contain the Russian offensive.
**US Aid to Ukraine**
General Cavoli also talked about US military aid packages to Ukraine. While it’s unclear what will happen under the new Trump administration, he pointed out that European aid has increased significantly.
