**US President Trump Praises Talks with Russia on Ukraine Ceasefire**
US President Donald Trump has said talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin about a ceasefire deal in Ukraine were “good and productive”. The meetings took place in Moscow, where US envoy Steve Witkoff met with Putin.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social account that the talks gave “a very good chance” of ending the war in Ukraine. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disagreed, saying Russia wants to keep fighting and will reject the ceasefire deal proposal.
**Ukraine Disagrees with Russia**
Zelensky said Putin was preparing to reject the ceasefire, claiming that Russia is the only party that wants the war to continue. He also wrote on social media that Ukraine has accepted the US-proposed ceasefire deal, which includes an exchange of prisoners and a 30-day ceasefire.
**White House Believes in Progress**
The White House believes they have “never been this close” to peace in Ukraine. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the talks between Putin and Witkoff were productive and that Trump has been pressuring Russia to do the right thing.
**G7 Members Support Ceasefire**
G7 members, including Canada, the UK, and others, have agreed with the US proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine. They are now waiting for a response from Russia. The UK’s Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, said G7 members were united in calling for a ceasefire with “no conditions”.
**Peacekeeping Mission to be Developed**
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will host a video call with up to 25 countries to develop a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. This comes after a summit earlier this month where Starmer called for a coalition of countries to defend a deal in Ukraine and guarantee peace afterwards.
