**Sanctions Against Russia to be Lifted, Trump Says**
US President Donald Trump has said that sanctions against Russia will eventually be lifted. He made the comment on February 25 during a press briefing at the White House.
Trump’s statement comes as the US and Russia renew contact between officials. This includes discussions about ending the war in Ukraine, reopening embassies in Washington and Moscow, and resuming economic cooperation.
**No Decision to Lift Sanctions Yet**
However, Trump quickly added that no decision has been made to lift sanctions against Russia. He said that while it may happen at some point, there are currently no plans to do so.
Russia has faced extensive Western sanctions since launching its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The US and the UK have imposed severe penalties on Russia’s oil sector, targeting nearly 200 vessels in the “shadow fleet“.
**Impact on Global Oil Market**
These measures have already affected the global oil market, pushing Brent crude prices up by nearly $5 per barrel.
Trump had previously threatened to impose additional sanctions against Russia if President Vladimir Putin fails to negotiate a peace deal with Ukraine. The Trump team is reportedly weighing two options: either relaxing sanctions to support a peace deal or expanding them to put more pressure on Moscow.
