**US President Trump Talks of Land Division in Ukraine Negotiations**
US President Donald Trump said on March 21 that a deal is being negotiated to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. The negotiations include a plan for dividing up land, as part of a full ceasefire.
Trump made this statement ahead of separate talks with Russia and Ukraine scheduled for March 24 in Saudi Arabia. He said, “Pretty soon, we’ll have a full ceasefire, and then we’re going to have a contract.”
The US President also dodged questions about imposing new sanctions on Russia as it continues to attack Ukraine. When asked if there would be any sanctions, Trump replied, “Well, they’re fighting against each other.”
**Russia’s Ongoing Invasion of Ukraine**
Russia has been occupying and illegally annexing parts of Ukraine since 2014. In 2022, Moscow declared the annexation of four more regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected any proposal to recognize Russian occupation of Ukrainian territories in peace talks. He considers it a “red line” that Kyiv will not cross.
**US Considering Recognition of Crimea**
The Semafor outlet reported earlier this week that the Trump administration is considering recognizing Crimea as part of a peace deal. However, Washington has not confirmed this claim.
