US President Donald Trump has made some strong comments about the country’s priorities.
Trump said on March 2 that the US should focus more on stopping immigrants who commit crimes, rather than worrying about Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He made his comments on social media site Truth Social.
Trump pointed out that some immigrants have been accused of serious crimes like rape and murder. “We should spend less time worrying about Putin,” he said, “and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our country.”
This comes just days after the US let two social media influencers into the country, even though they were under investigation in Romania for crimes like rape and human trafficking.
The US has been having trouble getting along with Ukraine and its European allies. Trump had a public argument with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on February 28. This was after plans to sign a treaty about natural resources fell apart.
Leaders from France and the UK visited the US last week to try to get Trump to help with stability in Ukraine after the war is over. But the argument between Trump and Zelensky overshadowed their visit.
Some European leaders are now speaking out in support of Zelensky, while others are asking him to make up with Trump so that the US will keep helping Ukraine.
