**US President Trump Urges Russia to End Ukraine War**
In a recent post on the Truth Social platform, US President Donald Trump called on Russia to end its war against Ukraine. The statement came as tensions between Russia and Ukraine remain high.
**Thousands Dying in Senseless War**
Trump wrote that thousands of people are dying every week in a “terrible and senseless war” that should have never happened. He blamed himself for not being president at the time, implying that he would have prevented the conflict.
**Sanctions Still Lacking**
Despite repeated threats, the US has yet to impose major sanctions on Russia. In fact, the Trump administration paused all military aid to Ukraine in March, putting pressure on Kyiv to agree to a mineral resource deal.
**Meeting with Putin’s Envoy**
Trump’s statement preceded a meeting between his special envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg to discuss a potential path toward a settlement in Ukraine.
**Ceasefire Agreements**
Ukraine agreed to a US proposal for a full 30-day ceasefire on March 11, provided Russia abides by the conditions. However, Moscow has rejected the deal unless it includes conditions undermining Ukraine’s defenses, namely a full halt on foreign military aid. Instead, Ukraine, Russia, and the US agreed to halt attacks on energy infrastructure and fighting in the Black Sea.
**Russia Blocks Partial Ceasefire**
The Kremlin has blocked the partial ceasefire, saying that the Black Sea ceasefire would only take effect after some sanctions against Russia are lifted. Both Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of violating the ban on energy infrastructure strikes.
**Russia’s Aggression Continues**
Since Kyiv and Washington agreed on a temporary truce, Russia has launched 70 missiles, 2,200 Shahed drones, and 6,000 guided aerial bombs against Ukraine, according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
**US Pressure Intensifies**
The US president has renewed his push for a ceasefire. Axios reported that Trump could impose additional sanctions on Russia if a ceasefire with Ukraine is not reached by the end of April.
As tensions between Russia and Ukraine remain high, it remains to be seen whether Trump’s words will translate into action. Will Russia respond to the pressure, or will the conflict continue? Only time will tell.
