**Trump Wants Neighbours to Accept Palestinians in Gaza “Clean-Up”**
US President Donald Trump wants neighbours Egypt and Jordan to accept Palestinians from Gaza in order to “clean up” the area. Trump described Gaza as a “demolition site” and said that all 1.5 million people could be moved out.
**Rejection from Neighbours**
However, both Jordan and Egypt have rejected this proposal. Hamas and the Palestinian Authority also condemned the idea. A ceasefire has been observed in Gaza after Israel and Hamas reached a deal.
**War in Gaza**
The war began when Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7th. Over 1,200 people have died and 251 have been taken back to Gaza by Hamas. More than 47,200 Palestinians have been killed, most of them civilians, in Israel’s offensive.
**Trump’s Comments**
Speaking on Air Force One, Trump said that he would rather work with Arab nations to build housing elsewhere for the Palestinians. He said that “almost everything has been destroyed and people are dying in Gaza”.
**Reaction from Palestine**
The Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas strongly rejected any projects that aim to displace Palestinians from Gaza. A man who was displaced from Khan Younis said that they will not leave their land except as corpses.
