In U.S. Presidential elections, a candidate doesn’t have to win the majority of popular votes, but rather a majority in electoral votes, which is allocated per state according to population. A candidate must win an election by securing 270 electoral votes.
North Carolina is among a few pivotal states that will determine the next U.S. President. Other key battlegrounds are Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania. Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona.
Donald Trump won North Carolina in both the 2016 and the 2020 elections.
