Former Rep. Matt Gaetz Removes Himself from Attorney General Consideration
Matt Gaetz, a former US representative, has taken himself out of the running for Attorney General. He says his nomination was causing too much distraction for President Trump’s transition team.
Gaetz was under investigation by two separate groups: the Department of Justice and the House Ethics Committee. The DOJ looked into claims involving an underage girl in a sex trafficking case. Gaetz denied these allegations and claimed he did nothing wrong.
The House Ethics Committee also investigated Gaetz, this time for alleged sexual misconduct and drug use. However, their investigation ended when Gaetz left Congress in 2024.
Gaetz is known for opposing aid to Ukraine. In February 2023, he proposed a resolution to stop giving money to Ukraine. He voted against big aid packages, including one worth $60 billion in April 2024.
In an interview, Gaetz made some unusual comments about letting Russia join NATO to counter China‘s influence.
