Trump’s Picks Visit Washington D.C.
Two of Trump‘s nominees are in Washington D.C. to meet with senators. They are Tulsi Gabbard and Pete Hegseth. Gabbard has been chosen for the National Director of Intelligence (NDI). Hegseth is being considered for a high position at the Pentagon.
Gabbard has made some comments that have caused controversy. She said that Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad was not an enemy to the US. She also blamed NATO for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Some people call her pro-Russian, but there’s no proof of this. In fact, Russian media once called her “their girlfriend”.
Hegseth is facing criticism for his behavior towards women and drinking too much alcohol in public.
Gabbard Met with Senators
Gabbard met with two senators who are on the Senate Intelligence Committee. They were James Lankford from Oklahoma and Mike Rounds from South Dakota. Rounds has been critical of Russia’s leader, Vladimir Putin.
Not Everyone Supports Gabbard
One senator, Shelley Moore Capito, is not sure if Gabbard will get the position. She said that there are many questions that need to be answered about Gabbard’s past comments.
Others Think It Will Be Easy
However, some senators think that Gabbard’s nomination will go through easily.
Hegseth Trying to Impress Senators
Hegseth is also trying to win over the senators. He has met with them and is getting support from some of them. One senator, John Cornyn, said that Hegseth does not have a problem with drinking too much alcohol.
