**Trump Calls for Ceasefire in Ukraine-Russia War, But Will It Matter?**
U.S. President Donald Trump has once again urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the violence in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Speaking on board Air Force One, Trump said, “We are talking to Russia. We would like them to stop.” He also expressed his disapproval of the bombing, stating that thousands of young people are being killed every week.
This call for a ceasefire comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his plea for a decisive response from the U.S. following Russia’s continuous attacks against Ukraine. Ukraine has already agreed to a full 30-day ceasefire proposed by the U.S., but Russia has refused to accept it.
**Zelensky Demands Action**
In his evening address on April 6, Zelensky emphasized that Russia is not interested in ending the war and is instead looking for ways to preserve its option of reigniting it at any moment. He urged the international community to continue putting pressure on Russia through sanctions and diplomatic means.
“We await a response from the United States – none has come so far – and we also expect a response from all in Europe and around the world who truly want peace,” Zelensky said.
**Latest Attack Leaves One Dead, Three Injured**
The latest attack by Russian forces on April 6 targeted multiple oblasts in Ukraine, including Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, and Mykolaiv. The Air Force reported that 23 missiles and 109 drones were launched at Ukrainian cities.
One person was killed, and three others were injured in the attack on Kyiv. Four children who were injured are still in serious condition, including two who are in extremely serious condition.
**Macron Joins the Call for Ceasefire**
French President Emmanuel Macron also joined the push for a ceasefire, stating that Russia’s continued attacks show no regard for civilians. “These Russian strikes must stop. A ceasefire must be reached as soon as possible,” Macron said on X.
**Diplomatic Efforts Continue**
Meanwhile, Kremlin negotiator Kirill Dmitriev announced that new contacts between Russia and the United States could take place as early as next week. This development has sparked cautious optimism about renewed diplomatic engagement.
However, Zelensky remains skeptical of these efforts, stating that Russia’s true intentions are to continue terrorizing Ukraine for as long as the world allows it.
**Trump’s Negotiation Strategy in Question**
As the world awaits a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, questions have been raised about what a deal brokered by Trump could look like. The Kyiv Independent’s Masha Lavrova has examined Trump’s negotiation strategy in Afghanistan, which resulted in a capitulation to the Taliban and abandoning U.S. allies.
This raises concerns about whether Trump’s approach would be effective in resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
**The World Awaits Action**
As tensions continue to escalate on the ground, the international community waits with bated breath for a decisive response from world leaders. Will a ceasefire brokered by Trump be enough to stop the violence, or will it merely delay the inevitable? Only time will tell.
