**US and Russia at Odds Over Ukraine**
The US has rejected a proposal from Russian President Vladimir Putin to establish a temporary government in Ukraine. This was announced by the State Department on March 31.
According to a spokesperson, Putin’s idea was not accepted by US President Donald Trump. The US believes that Ukraine is a constitutional democracy and its governance should be decided by the Ukrainian people and their constitution.
This comes after Putin suggested that a transitional administration could be formed in Ukraine, overseen by the UN and other countries, to organize elections. However, this proposal was immediately rejected by the White House.
**US Wants Ceasefire**
The US is committed to achieving a full ceasefire in Ukraine and bringing the parties to the negotiating table for a final settlement. President Trump has made it clear that Russia and Ukraine need to move towards a full ceasefire now.
**Threats of Tariffs**
As ceasefire negotiations continue, President Trump has threatened to impose secondary tariffs on Russian oil exports if Putin does not make a deal to end the war in Ukraine.
The White House has also expressed displeasure with both Russian and Ukrainian leaders amid efforts to secure a ceasefire. This is due to ongoing frustrations over reaching a minerals deal with Ukrainian officials.
