**Trump’s Top Security Pick Calls for End to Escalation in Ukraine**
The man chosen by US President-elect Donald Trump to advise on national security, Mike Waltz, has said that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine must end. He made this statement on November 24.
Waltz is against giving more money to Ukraine from the US to help fight Russia. Instead, he believes in a negotiated peace. “We need to bring this to a responsible end,” he said in an interview with Fox News.
**Criticism of Current Administration**
The current president, Joe Biden, has been trying to get more support for Ukraine before Trump’s inauguration. The Biden administration recently made some decisions that will help Ukraine negotiate with Russia better. These include sending anti-personnel mines and allowing Ukraine to attack targets inside Russia with US-made missiles.
Waltz criticized these decisions, saying they are like “World War I trench warfare”. He said that the current and future administrations are working together, but he disagrees with Biden’s decisions.
**Collaboration Between Administrations**
Despite his disagreements, Waltz has met with the current national security adviser, Jake Sullivan. He wants to reassure people that the transition between administrations will be smooth.
“We’ve had discussions, we’ve met,” Waltz said. “For our adversaries out there that think this is a time of opportunity, that they can play one administration off the other — they are wrong.”
