Turkey’s Changing Stance on Russia
Turkey has been buying a lot of fossil fuels from Russia. In 2023, Turkey will be the biggest buyer in the world. They will spend €42.2 billion (approximately $45.9 billion) on coal, oil, and natural gas.
This is a big change from last decade. Ten years ago, Turkey was spending much less on Russian fossil fuels. Turkish President Erdogan has spoken out against Russia’s actions in Ukraine. He said that he supports Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty. Erdogan also provided aid to Ukraine.
Despite this, Turkey is now buying more fuel from Russia than ever before. This is happening at the same time as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues.
