The fire in Borjomi Municipality has been ongoing throughout the night, with efforts to localize and extinguish it still in progress. Various departments of the government, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, as well as the relevant services of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, have been actively involved in the firefighting process. Border police helicopters have also resumed their work this morning.
International aid has been received, with a firefighting aircraft from Turkey with an 8-ton tank joining the efforts this morning. Two more specialized firefighting aircrafts are expected to join later today. The Railway Department has also mobilized a specialized firefighting train to assist in the process.
Despite these efforts, the high temperature and wind have made it difficult to completely extinguish the fire. Fire sources of varying complexity are still present on the ground. Heavy machinery and tractors have been used to create routes to access the active fire zones. All relevant fire-rescue vehicles are on site, and drones are being used to monitor the situation.
The operative management headquarters, led by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ioseb Chelidze and Head of the Emergency Situations Management Service Temur Mghebrishvili, are working on the ground to coordinate efforts. However, given the ongoing challenges, it is clear that the current government has not been able to fully contain the fire.
