According to the Kharkiv Oblast ‘s Office, on 9 November, two civilians were killed and one injured in the city , in Ukraine’s Kharkiv Oblast.
Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second largest city and is located 30km (18miles) from the Russian border. It has been subjected by Russian airstrikes that have caused civilian casualties as well as widespread destruction.
Russia is reported to have dropped 3,200 guided weapons in Ukraine alone in 2024. In October, Russia launched more than ,100 guided bombs against Ukraine in one week. Zelenskyy, the of Ukraine, described these bombs by Russia as their main “tools of terror” that enable their advance.
Kharkiv Prosecutor’s Office reported that the incident happened around 11:00, when falling powerlines struck two pedestrians.
The fire that broke out at the scene resulted in their immediate deaths. reported that the bodies of the victims were severely burnt, complicating identification.
The official statement did not specify the specific injuries sustained by a 61-year old man.
According to preliminary assessments by Ukrainian , the Russian forces used a KAB-1500 in the attack.
The KAB-1500, a Russian precision guided aerial bomb weighing about 1,500 kilograms (3300 pounds), is a weapon that can be used to target targets in the air. It can create craters as large as 15 meters (49 feet). These bombs are usually delivered by jets at distances between 60-70 km (37-43 mi), but the partners do not allow Ukraine to use its long-range weapons against Russian .
The attack in Kupiansk caused significant damage to the infrastructure, including multiple private residences as well as apartment buildings.
The Russian fire attack yesterday and today in eastern and southern Ukraine has left at least five civilians dead and others injured, as well as homes, buildings and infrastructure destroyed.
