Two Men Arrested in Mestia Murder Case
A court in Zugdidi has ordered two suspects to be held in custody. They are accused of murdering and robbing a foreign citizen, Viktor Solovyov.
The judge said that the suspects had previous convictions for crimes like selling drugs. One suspect told police officers that they were looking for hidden drugs when they committed the crime.
Prosecutors say that the men killed Solovyov because he saw them stealing his phone. They claim that one of the suspects used a gun to shoot him, and then hid the body in a river.
The defense team argued that there was no proof that the suspects stole anything from Solovyov’s friends. They also claimed that Solovyov may have damaged his own phone to hide information.
A prosecutor responded by saying that Solovyov said he saw one of the suspects take his phone with a knife, and the other suspect pointed a gun at him.
If convicted, the two men face prison sentences ranging from 16 to 20 years or even life imprisonment.
They have been charged with murder, robbery, and theft of firearms.
