Since the beginning of the invasion, Russia has lost at least 29 Pion SPGs.
The 100th Mechanized Brigade of Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported that Ukrainian forces destroyed two Russian 2S7 Pion auto-propelled artillery near occupied Horlivka, Donetsk Oblast.
The Pion is also known as 2S7M Malka. It has a range of 37.5 km and shells that weigh 103 kilograms. Oryx, an open-source intelligence project claims that Russia has lost 29 2S7(M), Pion/Malka system since its full-scale invasion in Ukraine. According to Military Balance, Russia will have approximately 60 modernized 2S7M systems in active service by 2022 and 260 2S7 mothballed.
The Brigade’s drone squad carried out the operation approximately 25 kilometers behind enemy line, using bomber drone attacks. The National Police’s Lut (Fury), Joint Assault Brigade coordinated the aerial reconnaissance.

Since 1975, the 2S7 Pion is a Soviet-era self-propelled 203mm artillery system. It was designed to destroy high-priority targets and suppress the rear areas. The gun can fire nuclear ammunition.
Ukrainian Defense Forces reported that they also destroyed a Buk M2 air defense radar and struck a Buk M3 system on 25th October. On the same day, Ukrainian paratroopers showed evidence of destroyed Russian equipment on what they called a ‘road of death’ in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.
