**Local Scouts Help Ukrainian Refugees Adjust to School**
Two young boys from Ukraine, Artem and Yehor, have been helped by a local Scout group in Gosport, Hampshire. The six-year-old brothers arrived in the town in 2022 after their families fled Ukraine due to the Russian invasion.
**From Fear to Confidence**
When they started school, both boys were scared to talk as they didn’t speak English well. But with the help of the 6th Gosport Scout Group, they have grown into confident and kind children. Their mother, Yehor’s mom, said she was delighted that her son could grow up in a safe place and have a normal childhood.
**Importance of Community**
The Scout group, called Squirrels, has not only helped the boys but also their parents. The mothers said it’s a great opportunity to meet other adults and get some social interaction, which is important for mental health.
**A Safe Haven**
Artem, who came from Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine, said England was quiet and safe compared to Ukraine. Yehor, from Kyiv, agreed and said they don’t have rockets or shooting here, and he can sleep more peacefully.
**Success Story**
Lisa Young, lead volunteer at the Scout group, is thrilled with how far the boys have come. She said their ability to converse in English has improved greatly, and they enjoy outdoor activities and all that the Scouts program offers. Ms. Young believes that “the sky is the limit” for both Artem and Yehor.
