U.S. Slaps Sanctions on Democracy Underminers

The US Department of Treasury has recently taken action against four individuals in Georgia for their involvement in serious human abuses and undermining democracy. These individuals include Zviad Kharazishvili and Mileri Lagazauri, from the , as well as Konstantine Morgoshia and Makharadze, leaders of violent extremist group.

In addition these sanctions, the US State Department has also imposed visa restrictions over 60 Georgian individuals and their family members who have played a role in undermining democracy in the . This includes , business leaders involved in corrupt practices, and members of law enforcement who have used violence against peaceful protesters.

According to Secretary of State , these actions are a response to the serious human rights abuses and anti-democratic actions that have taken place in Georgia. The US government remains concerned about these issues and will continue to consider further actions.

Blinken also emphasizes the US’s support for the rights of Georgians to peacefully assemble and protest without fear of violence or suppression. The US government will not tolerate any actions that restrict these fundamental freedoms.
