**US Evaluates Approach to Georgia**
The US State Department is reviewing its approach to Georgia. This comes after the government of Georgia was called “anti-democratic” by the US. The government has been criticized for censoring and imprisoning opponents.
A question was asked at a press briefing about what kind of communication the US has with the ruling party in Georgia. The spokesperson, Tammy Bruce, promised to provide an answer later. Now, the State Department has responded.
**US Says Georgian Government Must Change**
The response says that the Georgian Dream government must take steps to show it is serious about improving relations with the US. It also mentions that Vice President Vance said you cannot win a democratic mandate by censoring opponents or putting them in jail.
**Strong Support for Georgia’s Independence**
The State Department says it has been a strong supporter of Georgia’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity for 33 years.
**US Ambassador Meets with Georgian Officials**
This comes after US Ambassador Robin Dunnigan met with the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Economy. These are the first meetings between the US Ambassador and Georgian Dream officials since the disputed elections in October.
The response from the State Department follows these meetings, where the US conveyed its top priorities and steps that Georgia can take to improve relations. The meetings also reviewed opportunities for joint work under the new US administration.
