**Multiple Countries Join Forces to Help Ukraine**
The UK government says about 20 countries are interested in joining a “coalition of the willing” to help Ukraine. These countries are mainly from Europe and the Commonwealth.
According to UK officials, not all of these countries will send troops, but some might provide other forms of support. The plan is led by the UK and France, and was discussed at a summit of 18 European leaders last weekend.
**Russia Not Happy**
Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, has said that this move “can’t be allowed” because it would mean Nato countries are directly involved in the war against Russia.
**UK PM Speaks Out**
The UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, said it would be a mistake to think that Ukraine and Russia will reach a deal soon. He wants to make sure Ukraine is in a strong position if there is a peace agreement.
Sir Keir also stressed the importance of working with the United States on this issue. He said defence plans should be made “in conjunction” with Washington.
**Security Guarantees**
A meeting was held on Tuesday to discuss providing security guarantees following any peace deal. British officials say it’s early days, but they welcome the interest shown by other countries in joining a coalition to help Ukraine.
**UK Support for Ukraine**
The UK has announced a £1.6 billion missile deal with Ukraine and has also signed a deal with an Anglo-American firm to provide advanced attack drones. Defence Secretary John Healey said these moves show leadership in securing a lasting peace for Ukraine.
**EU Steps Up Support**
The European Union is also increasing its support for Ukraine. The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has proposed an €800 billion defence package to help protect Europe and Ukraine.
