**Russia’s War in Ukraine: Heavy Losses Mount**
The Russian military has suffered over 750,000 casualties in its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This number is expected to exceed 1 million within six months, according to UK Under-Secretary of Defense Luke Pollard.
Despite some gains in eastern Ukraine and Kursk Oblast, Russia’s progress has come at a heavy cost. The country has lost ground in the past few months, with significant combat casualties reported daily. In November, Russia suffered its highest daily loss since the start of the invasion – 2,030 troops.
**Russia Keeps Losses Secret**
The Russian government does not publicly disclose its casualty figures. However, a Defense Ministry official recently revealed that the department received over 48,000 requests to identify missing soldiers. An independent investigation by BBC Russia and Mediazona identified the names of 82,050 Russian soldiers who died during the invasion.
**Ukraine’s Losses Revealed**
President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported that Ukraine has lost around 43,000 soldiers on the battlefield since the start of the conflict. In contrast, Ukrainian authorities reported 700,000 Russian losses in November alone, just weeks after announcing 600,000 casualties.
**Recruiting Foreigners to Fight**
To mitigate casualties among its own citizens, Russia has been recruiting foreign fighters. North Korea is reportedly sending between 10,000 and 12,000 soldiers to aid Russia’s war effort against Ukraine.
