**Trump Urged to Be Careful in Ukraine Negotiations**
A U.K. lawmaker has warned U.S. President Donald Trump not to rush his approach to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Iain Duncan Smith, a British politician and former government minister, said that Trump needs to “understand where the threat is” and avoid forcing Ukraine into a bad deal.
In an interview with the Kyiv Independent, Duncan Smith expressed concerns that Trump may be too quick to make concessions to Russia in exchange for a peace agreement. He urged Trump to recognize the threat posed by a “totalitarian axis” of Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea.
**Trump’s Approach to Russia and China**
Since taking office, Trump has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to make a deal to end the war in Ukraine. However, his approach to Russia is at odds with his comments about other members of the totalitarian axis. In an interview at the World Economic Forum, Trump said he had “always had a great relationship” with Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed hope for working with Beijing to end the conflict.
Despite issuing executive orders on trade and immigration, Trump has yet to impose tariffs on Chinese imports or take action against the Chinese-owned app TikTok. Duncan Smith warned that it’s impossible to distinguish between business and geopolitics when dealing with China.
**Support for Ukraine**
The U.K. has consistently supported Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. Iain Duncan Smith praised his country’s stance, saying it was “very proud” of the support provided to Kyiv. In contrast, some European countries, such as Slovakia and Czechia, have been more hesitant in their support.
Duncan Smith also criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for playing a “fast and loose” role in addressing the conflict.
