**Ukraine Protests IAEA’s Route Through Occupied Territory**
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has protested against International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) staff passing through occupied territories to carry out a rotation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. The ministry blamed the situation on Russian blackmail.
According to Ukraine, Russian forces had blocked staff rotations through Ukrainian-controlled territory. The ministry accused Russia of obstructing the rotation of IAEA staff and keeping inspectors under “unprecedented psychological pressure in a high-risk zone.”
**Background: Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant**
The largest nuclear plant in Europe has been under Russian occupation since 2022. While the facility remains under Russian control, it is not currently generating electricity.
**IAEA’s Response**
The IAEA has not yet commented on the situation. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry dismissed the IAEA’s capabilities of handling the situation on the ground, calling their actions a “humanitarian evacuation” instead of a staff rotation.
