The Office of the President of Ukraine has announced that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President To Lam of Vietnam have discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and increase trade, particularly in the agricultural sector. Despite Vietnam’s historical ties with Russia, the country has maintained a neutral stance on the Ukraine conflict and has provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
President To Lam noted that trade between the two countries declined in 2022 but has gradually increased in the past year. He suggested that both countries work together to expand trade in various sectors. President Zelenskyy expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s support, including a donation of $500,000 through international humanitarian organizations and their willingness to participate in Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts after the war.
In the 2023-2024 marketing season, Ukraine exported nearly 692,000 tons of sugar, a 60% increase from the previous year when there was a temporary ban on sugar exports. This demonstrates the potential for further growth in trade between the two countries.
Overall, the meeting between the two leaders was positive and focused on finding ways to strengthen their relationship and increase economic cooperation. Both presidents expressed a desire to work together and explore opportunities for mutual benefit.
