Viktoriya Kupshinnikova, Ukraine’s acting permanent representative, spoke at the OSCE Permanent Council Meeting. She stressed the importance of enhancing sanctions against Russia, closing loopholes and ensuring accountability for the crimes committed by the Russian leadership, while pushing Ukraine’s integration in the Euro-Atlantic Security System.
Viktoria Kupshinnikova, the Acting Permanent Representative for Ukraine to International Organizations in Vienna, spoke at the OSCE Permanent Council about the need to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capability to achieve a just and lasting peace.
Ukraine has intensified efforts to gain Western approval for its military strikes deep inside Russia. It is urging allies, including the US, to lift restrictions on using their long-range donated weapons. Western allies have been reluctant to support the attacks, especially the US, for fear of escalation.
“Resilient stability, and a just peace, can only be achieved by strength. Moscow cannot be allowed to gather more resources and adapt. Ukraine’s defense capability must be strengthened in the context of the victory plan. It is time to lift the self-imposed restrictions that were imposed on people in order to protect them from terror. Kuvshinnikova said that Ukraine must strike Russian military bases and facilities to prevent further attacks.
The Ukrainian official also stressed the need to tighten sanctions against Russia, and close loopholes that allow them to be bypassed. The Russian leadership must be held accountable for their crimes, and this includes the creation of a tribunal.
“Ukraine should finally be integrated into Euro-Atlantic Security Architecture.” Kuvshinnikova said that it was necessary to stop Russia on the battlefield and deter Moscow’s aggression against Ukraine, or any other participant state in the future.
At the opening of the European Political Community Summit in Budapest, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine needs enough weapons from its partners and not support in negotiation, because Russian ruler Vladimir Putin has his eyes only on war. He can be deterred by pressure.
